💰 Price: 910 €
🚩 Start: Cortina d’Ampezzo
🏁 Finish: Cortina d’Ampezzo

Via ferratas in the Dolomites are a unique combination of mountaineering, hiking, and history, making this region one of the most popular in the world for active travel. “Via ferrata” means “iron path” in Italian — these are equipped mountain routes with steel cables, ladders, iron rungs, and bridges that allow you to safely climb steep rock faces even without classical climbing experience. Why the Dolomites The Dolomites are the birthplace of via ferrata. Many routes were built during World War I and today combine a sporting challenge with a fascinating historical context. They pass along dramatic towers, narrow ridges, and deep cliffs, offering panoramas considered among the most beautiful in the Alps. How a typical day looks: we prepare breakfast together at the campsite, travel to the route by public transport or taxi (from 30 minutes to about 1–1.5 hours), hike to the start, complete the via ferrata, have a snack for lunch, continue the route, descend to the stop, return to the campsite, and have dinner in a café.

📅 Schedule

  • Day 1: Group arrival

We meet at one of the most comfortable campsites in Cortina d’Ampezzo, check in, set up tents, have a briefing, gear check, introductions, and dinner.

  • Day 2: Via ferrata Scala del Meninghel and Via ferrata Grotta di Tofana

Grade A+/B, elevation gain 565 m, approx. time on route 5–6 hours. The first ferrata circles Tofana di Rozes, one of the most beautiful peaks over 3000 m surrounding Cortina. The second allows you to enter a cave of the mountain and explore World War I positions.

  • Day 3: Via ferrata Ra Bujela and Via ferrata Ra Pegna

Grade A/B/C, elevation gain 810 m, approx. time on route 4–5 hours. Ra Pegna is an easy via ferrata without difficult sections and combines well with the neighboring Ra Bujela ferrata, which is longer and more challenging. Ra Bujela offers exciting, almost vertical climbing, scenic wooden bridges, and stunning views east over Cortina and south toward Monte Sorapiss and Croda da Lago.

  • Day 4: Via ferrata Sentiero Bonacossa

Grade A/B, elevation gain 610 m, approx. time on route 4–5 hours. The dramatic Cadini di Misurina viewpoint attracts hundreds of tourists daily, but only a few continue further. You can traverse the entire Cadini di Misurina group along the beginner-friendly Sentiero Bonacossa via ferrata.

  • Day 5: Via ferrata Michielli Strobel

Grade C, elevation gain 965 m, approx. time on route 5–6 hours, summit 2240 m. Via Ferrata Michielli Strobel is characterized by sections of climbing interspersed with magnificent views south to Cortina, Monte Pelmo, Croda da Lago, and west to the Tofane di Mezzo. The route culminates on a high summit and descends along a challenging scree slope.

  • Day 6: Via ferrata Ivano Dibona

Grade B, elevation gain 1350 m, approx. time on route 8 hours, summit 3008 m. This historic route was used by Italian troops during World War I. Midway along the route you pass the 27-meter Cristallo bridge, featured in the 1993 action film “Cliffhanger”. It is the longest suspension bridge in the Dolomites.

  • Day 7: Program closing
