The Fishermen’s Trail from Aljezur to Lagos is one of the most scenic sections of the southwestern coast of Portugal. It is part of the famous Rota Vicentina route and runs along the wild Atlantic coastline, combining old fishermen’s paths, sandy dunes, and dramatic ocean cliffs. Along the way we will discover some of the most beautiful beaches in the region — including Praia da Arrifana, Praia do Amado, and Praia da Bordeira. The trail often follows narrow sandy paths along the edge of cliffs, where you can see fishermen catching fish directly from the cliffs — this is where the route gets its name. Further along, the path passes through authentic villages such as Carrapateira and Vila do Bispo, where you can experience the real atmosphere of Portugal’s southern coast, taste fresh seafood, and rest before the next stages of the trek. The final part of the route leads to the historic town of Lagos — one of the most beautiful towns in the Algarve. Here we will see the famous golden cliffs, grottos, and beaches such as Ponta da Piedade, considered among the most impressive natural landscapes in Portugal.
