Western Lycian Way with a light backpack and hotel stays

📏 Distance: ≈10 km per day
⛰️ Difficulty: medium
Duration: 8 days
💰 Price: 1080 €
🚩 Start: Fethiye
🏁 Finish: Fethiye

Feel true freedom on the Western section of the Lycian Way — where narrow mountain paths lead to hidden bays and every turn reveals new panoramas of the Turkish coastline. In the evenings, unforgettable sunsets over the sea await you, when the sky ignites with warm colors and it feels as if time has stopped. The format of traveling with light backpacks and overnight stays in hotels makes this trek a perfect combination of active adventure and comfort. During the day you carry only essentials — water, snacks, and a camera. In the evening you stay in cozy hotels or guesthouses with a shower, a soft bed, and traditional Turkish cuisine. This hike is suitable for active travelers with basic physical fitness. Daily distances and elevation gain are moderate, while comfortable overnight stays allow you to recover quickly. It’s an excellent option for those who want to try a multi-day trek without extreme нагрузок.

📅 Schedule

  • Day 1: Fethiye — rock tombs, fish market

Group meeting in Fethiye at 15:00. We check into comfortable apartments and go to explore the town. We’ll walk to the rock tombs — majestic burial sites carved directly into steep cliffs during ancient Lycia. The most famous is the Tomb of Amyntas, towering above the city and offering a breathtaking view of the bay, especially magical in the evening sun. In the evening we visit the fish market to taste fresh seafood, get to know each other, and take a walk along the evening promenade. Distance: 5–7 km Elevation gain ~150 m, descent similar. Overnight: Fethiye

  • Day 2: Kayaköy — Ölüdeniz — paragliding

We send our backpacks with the transfer and enjoy the day. After morning exercises and a tasty breakfast, we drive to the start of the route. Walk through the streets of the abandoned town of Kayaköy, where the silence of old stone houses transports you into the past. Then head to the turquoise waters of Ölüdeniz to soar into the sky by paragliding from Mount Babadağ — and see the coastline as only birds remember it. Ölüdeniz is a bay you fall in love with at first sight: clear turquoise water, soft sand, and mountains that seem to embrace the sea. Here each day ends with a golden sunset, and each morning begins with the feeling that you’ve stepped into a perfect postcard from the Turkish coast. It’s not just a beach — it’s a place you’ll want to return to again and again. Distance: 7 km Elevation gain 250 m, descent 400 m Overnight: Ölüdeniz

  • Day 3: Kozagacı — Kirme — Faralya

The route from Kozagacı via Kirme to Faralya is one of the most scenic sections of the Lycian Way: mountain switchbacks, pine forests, and sea panoramas far below. Here every step brings you closer to the cliffs above the famous Butterfly Valley, where nature feels especially wild and authentic. Distance: 12 km Elevation gain 700 m, descent similar. Overnight: Faralya

  • Day 4: Kabak

Along the way we’ll encounter wildflowers, birdsong, and the silence of mountain passes. Every step brings a feeling of freedom and full immersion in nature. We finish in Kabak and enjoy the magic of the Turkish coastline. Distance: 14 km Elevation gain 600 m, descent 900 m Overnight: Kabak

  • Day 5: Paradise Bay — Yediburunlar

The route from Kabak to Yediburunlar (literally “Seven Capes”) along the lower trail is an exciting journey along the coast where the mountains gradually descend to the sea. At the beginning we pass a rocky section of the trail, then move to Paradise Bay, and near the finish we’ll have a solid ascent. Along the way, incredible panoramas of the turquoise Mediterranean Sea, small beaches, and cliffs rising straight from the water unfold. This route is less popular than the upper trail, so it offers peace and solitude, allowing you to enjoy every step. Overnight in a mountain guesthouse, tasting real rural cuisine. Distance: 12 km Elevation gain 950 m, descent 350 m Overnight: Yediburunlar

  • Day 6: Bel — Gavurağılı — transfer to Gelemiş

During the day the route alternates gentle descents with short climbs, so the movement feels comfortable but requires attention on rocky sections. Along the way we can make several stops for photos, snacks, and enjoying nature. Later the trail leads to the village of Gavurağılı, where the day’s hike ends. Here you can rest, refresh with water, and regain strength before the next stage of the journey. Transfer to the village of Gelemiş, dinner, rest. Distance: 14 km Elevation gain 950 m, descent 350 m Overnight: Gelemiş

  • Day 7: Saklıkent Canyon — ancient city of Patara — sand dunes

Feel the true power of nature in Saklıkent Canyon — one of the deepest and most impressive canyons in Turkey. Here steep cliffs rise hundreds of meters overhead, while cool mountain water flows through stone labyrinths, creating the feeling of traveling inside a natural fortress. Before sunset we explore the ancient city of Patara (ruins of the amphitheater, temples, Roman baths, ancient streets) and watch the sunset from the sand dunes. Farewell dinner. Overnight: Gelemiş

  • Day 8: Program closing

Breakfast, return to Fethiye. Optionally, you can extend your stay for a few days at Ölüdeniz beach or in Kaş
